Keynote Address

Brian Moynihan - Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, Bank of America

Brian Moynihan leads a team of more than 200,000 employees dedicated to making financial lives better for people, companies of every size, and institutional investors across the United States and around the world.

Bank of America has been recognized as a leader in financial services, including on Fortune magazine’s list of The Best Big Companies to Work For, named Global Finance’s Best Bank in the United States and North America in 2020 and placed on Forbes’ World’s Best Employers List in 2019. The company is the top global bank on Fortune’s Change the World list. It was also the 2019 Catalyst Award winner for supporting the continued development, empowerment and advancement of women in the company and around the world, and is recognized annually as a top employer by Working Mother, LATINA Style, Black Enterprise, Military Times and U.S Veterans Magazine. Bank of America is included in the Forbes Corporate Responders List of 25 companies leading through the health crisis caused by the coronavirus. 

Moynihan participates in several organizations that focus on economic and market trends, including the World Economic Forum International Business Council (chair), the Financial Services Forum, the Bank Policy Institute, the Business Roundtable, the Clearing House, the American Heart Association CEO Roundtable (co-chair), the Business Council and the Federal Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Board. 

Moynihan leads the company’s Global Diversity and Inclusion Council and is a member of the museum council for the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Moynihan is also a member of the Brown University Corporation's Board of Fellows, the Catalyst Board of Directors, the Council on Competitiveness Board of Directors and the Appeal of Conscience Board of Trustees. 

Moynihan works with public officials, businesses and civic leaders at the local level through his participation on the Charlotte Executive Leadership Council (chair), the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership and the Partnership for Rhode Island.  

 

Matt Slovik - Managing Director and Head of Global Sustainable Finance, Morgan Stanley

Matthew Slovik is a Managing Director and Head of Morgan Stanley’s Global Sustainable Finance group, where he leads the firmwide sustainable finance strategy and focuses on mobilizing private-sector capital to address major global challenges.  Matthew works across the firm to develop client-focused financial products and solutions that integrate sustainability and target strong financial returns as well as positive environmental or social impact. Under Matthew’s leadership, Morgan Stanley continues to develop innovative sustainable and impact investing solutions for institutions and individuals. 

Matthew has spent his entire career at Morgan Stanley, where he began working as an analyst in the Firm’s Investment Banking Division. Most recently, he worked in Morgan Stanley Alternative Investment Partners (AIP), the Firm’s institutional private equity fund investing business, where he helped lead the build out of the private equity impact investing program. During his career at Morgan Stanley, Matthew has also worked in the Firm’s Global Capital Markets, Wealth Management and Firm Management divisions. He received a B.A. in Public Policy from Duke University.

Central Banking and regulation

Shamaila Khan is Head of AB’s Emerging Market Debt strategies, responsible for the management and strategy implementation of all portfolios within the Emerging Market Debt platform. She had shared responsibility for the management and oversight of the firm’s hard- and local-currency emerging-market strategies until 2018, when she was named sole Director, reporting directly to AB’s Co-Heads of Fixed Income, Gershon Distenfeld and Scott DiMaggio. Khan also serves as a member of the Emerging Markets Multi-Asset Portfolio team. Given her involvement managing global credit and equities, she brings an established view of fundamental success factors on both sides of the spectrum. Khan joined AB in 2011 as a senior vice president and portfolio manager, focusing on emerging-market corporate and quasi-sovereign issuers across all the firm’s Emerging Market Debt and Credit strategies. She has been actively managing and evaluating corporate and sovereign emerging-market debt issuance since 1997 and has participated in a number of emerging-market panels at investment conferences worldwide. Prior to joining AB, Khan served as managing director of emerging-market debt for TIAA-CREF. She is the author of several published papers and blogs, and has appeared in a wide range of global financial publications, including Barron’s, Citywire, Financial Times and Seeking Alpha, among others. Khan is also a trusted guest commentator on financial television programs and has appeared on Bloomberg TV to discuss headlines affecting emerging markets, from Turkey’s political crisis and Russian sanctions to Venezuela’s economy and geopolitics in developing nations. In 2019, she received a Top Women in Asset Management Award from Money Management Executive. Khan holds a BBA from Quaid-i-Azam University, Pakistan, and an MBA (with honors) from the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University.

Emma works as a climate risk and green finance specialist for the Financial Stability department at the World Bank, advising governments and central banks on integrating climate-related financial risk into regulatory frameworks and scaling up green finance activities. Prior to the World Bank she worked at the Bank of England, coordinating its supervisory response to climate risk, at the Dutch Central Bank, and at the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations in New York. She holds an MSc in Economic History from the London School of Economics.

Emma Dalhuijsen - Climate Risk and Green Finance Consultant - World Bank

Ulrich Volz is Director of the Centre for Sustainable Finance and Reader in Economics at SOAS, University of London. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the German Development Institute and Honorary Professor of Economics at the University of Leipzig. Ulrich is a director of the Global Research Alliance for Sustainable Finance and Investment and serves on the advisory board of the International Sustainable Finance Centre. Ulrich was Banque de France Chair at EHESS in Paris and taught at Peking University, Kobe University, the Hertie School of Governance, Freie Universität Berlin, the Central University of Finance and Economics in Beijing, and the Institute of Developing Economies (IDE-JETRO) in Tokyo. He spent stints working at the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and held visiting positions at the University of Oxford, the University of Birmingham, the ECB, Bank Indonesia, and Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. He also served on the advisory council of the Asian Development Bank Institute. He holds a PhD from Freie Universität Berlin and was a Fox International Fellow and Max Kade Scholar at Yale University. Ulrich was part of the UN Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System and has acted as an advisor to several governments, central banks, international organisations, and development agencies on matters of sustainable finance and development.

Cary is Lecturer in the Practice of Management, fall 2017 at the Yale School of Management and Lecturer and Faculty Adviser, Yale College on Energy Studies, Climate and Investing, having previously taught Yale College Seminars on Business, Innovation and Sustainability.

He also teaches the Theory and Practice of Sustainable Investing at Brown University, helping support the Sustainable Investment Fund within the Brown Endowment, and has been an MBA Lecturer at Concordia and Maryland and helped lead and design the RFK Sustainable Investing program at Columbia's Earth Institute.

Books include Sustainable Investing: Revolutions in Theory and Practice (Routledge, 2017), a look at the present and future of investing where financial success requires a sustainability focus, and at the same time, desired outcomes require a business case, following two previous books with Nick Robins among other leading contributors.

He is also Senior Advisor to BlueSky Investment Management, Principal at NPV Associates, Co-founder and Director of Real Impact Tracker and the Carbon Tracker Initiative, and Editor of the Journal of Environmental Investing, now in its 8th year. The next issue and a related symposium on The State of ESG Data and Metrics are being guest edited and hosted at Yale on September 21-22, 2017.

He also co-created Systems Finance at Yale in 2016, led a Working Group in 2015 for the Principles for Responsible Investment developing its Climate Change Asset Owner Strategy framework and advised to the UNEP Inquiry into the Design of a Sustainable Financial System authoring papers that include The Value of Everything among other papers following earlier careers in environmental and institutional investment analytics and technology.

Meg Lentz is a Vice President who works with both traditional investors and dedicated impact investors on ESG and Impact management engagements. Meg has worked with dozens of firms to develop right-sized ESG policies and procedures and has assisted with implementation into the firm’s investment strategy. She has led over 350 ESG due diligence reviews on clients’ perspective investments across industries and geographies and has led ongoing ESG monitoring and reporting strategies for clients as well. Meg has also been a pivotal member of Malk’s impact management advisory team, working with clients across the lifecycle of an impact fund from developing an initial fund impact thesis and framework, to identifying and qualifying the positive impact of specific investments, to measuring and reporting on fund-level impacts.  Meg recently started leading Malk’s Venture Capital and Growth Equity vertical team, focusing on leveraging ESG and impact management best practices to drive value and sustainable growth for early stage companies.

Meg graduated from Stanford University with a B.A. in Political Science and a certificate from the Summer Institute for General Management at the Graduate School of Business.

Roslyn Stein is ESG Performance and Responsible Investment Lead for AXA Group, a worldwide leader in insurance and asset management headquartered in Paris, France. In this role she is responsible for the overall coordination of AXA Group’s ESG disclosures including the annual AXA Climate Report (TCFD Report). She also works on all aspects of AXA Group’s Responsible Investment Strategy, including AXA’s approach to ESG integration, climate-related portfolio alignment, sector exclusions and sensitive investments, the Group’s green investment targets and impact investing strategy, and shareholder engagement. Prior to joining AXA, Roslyn practised law at magic circle law firms in Sydney and Paris. She holds a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws with Honours from the University of Sydney and a Masters in Sustainable Development with Honours from Paris Dauphine University.

Roslyn Stein - ESG Performance and Responsible Investment Lead, AXA

Anup Jagwani is the global head of Climate Finance and Policy at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, and the largest development institution focused on the private sector in emerging markets.     

In his current role Anup oversees IFC's work on green bond standards, carbon pricing, climate risk and adaptation, climate-related metrics, and support to developing country governments to help create market opportunities for low-carbon, resilient development.  This includes thought leadership in the climate space through managing the production of reports that identify investment opportunities to help countries achieve their NDC goals and develop low carbon pathways and developing new products to scale up climate business.  He is leading IFC’s work on climate risk.

Anup has spent over 20 years in IFC’s investment operations in a range of sectors including manufacturing, agribusiness (majority of the focus), infrastructure and financial services, and has led several of IFC’s climate smart agribusiness projects.  He also formulated IFC’s strategy and approach in the area of innovative and disruptive technologies in agribusiness. Anup has served as nominee Director for two of IFC’s investee companies in Sub Saharan Arica.

Prior to joining IFC, Anup spent time with Unilever in India, led a medium sized company as CFO and COO in the construction materials space in the Philippines and also had short stints with Citibank (India), Oberoi Hotels (India) and Accenture (Malaysia). Anup is a graduate of the Asian Institute of Management and the Wharton School of Business of the University of Pennsylvania.  He did his undergraduate studies in Economics at St. Xavier’s college in Kolkata, India.

I am an international leader in sustainability science, policy and practice interested in exploring the role of corporations in fostering overall inclusive and sustainable development. I do this through the development, refinement and application of sustainability assessment tools methods, models and techniques. I have applied such tools to various industries namely, extractives (mining), gemstones, higher education, finance and banking, public sector, international development, fashion and the third sector (NGOs), in geographical contexts as diverse as Australia, Japan, China, Thailand, Colombia, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Zambia and Angola. John Ploeg, CFA, is a Vice President and ESG specialist for PGIM Fixed Income, based in London. As part of the Firm’s ESG specialist team and a member of its ESG committee, Mr. Ploeg is involved in all aspects of its ESG approach, including the maintenance and enhancement of its ESG ratings methodology, ESG engagement activities, and tracking ESG-related market and regulatory developments. Patricia Farrar-Rivas is Chairperson of the Partner Group, Founding Partner, and a Senior Wealth Manager at Veris Wealth Partners. She is also a Certified Investment Management Analyst professional (CIMA®). She has provided wealth management and impact investing advice to families, families office and family foundations since 1992. Prior to Veris, Patricia led the effort by Silicon Valley-based public accounting firm, Frank, Rimerman + Co. to launch its new investment advisory subsidiary, Frank, Rimerman Advisors. Mark McDivitt is the Chief Operating Officer of Context Labs (contextlabs.com) responsible for driving strategy focused on the financial sector along with overseeing Sales and Marketing.

Prior to joining Context Labs, Mark was Global Head of ESG at State Street Corporation focused on data analytics, carbon trading and thought leadership across the firm. He played an active role on State Street’s Executive Corporate Responsibility Committee constructing environmental attribute portfolios to address State Street’s annual sustainability objectives. Advisory board participation included the Cleantech incubator Greentown Labs, CECP’s Strategic Investor Initiative, Self Help Africa as well as being a SASB Alliance member. Prior to his role leading ESG, he ran FX Hedge Fund Sales. Mark remains an active “First Mover” Fellow at the Aspen Institute’s Business & Society Program.

Before joining State Street in 2010, Mark was Founder and President of CarbonCCY Management executing environmental attributes on behalf of renewable energy infrastructure companies.

Prior to CarbonCCY, Mark was at AIG responsible for originating and executing their first transaction in the global Carbon Credit markets involving the issuance of a Letter of Credit to cover the default risk of twenty one global companies purchasing environmental attributes to meet Kyoto Protocol commitments on behalf of the World Bank.

Mark began his career with Fuji Bank in Tokyo, Japan trading interest rate swaps followed by fifteen years with Morgan Stanley and Deutsche Bank in Tokyo, Singapore and London as Head of Hedge Fund Sales. In addition, he held an eight-year term with AIG and CS in Hedge Fund FX & Derivative Sales.

Mark graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from St. Lawrence University, attended the International Christian University in Tokyo, Japan and served as a Captain in the United States Army Reserves.

Mark McDivitt - Chief Operating Officer, Context Labs

Todd is Partner and Global Head of Sustainable Investing & ESG Research with Arabesque whose expertise lies at the intersection of sustainable finance, climate finance, ESG data (unstructured/structured), and technology. His responsibility is building a world class ESG research and product team with 60+ global members, and building + designing an innovative product portfolio – data, research, and technology solutions. His approach to building products and solutions is theoretically motivated by academic and industry research but commercially pragmatic to ensure relevancy for investment professionals, consultants, and companies. Todd has worked with global institutional investors and executives across central banks, sovereign wealth funds, state pensions, corporate pensions, foundations, endowments, family offices, and Fortune 500 companies, etc. 

Todd attended formal training at Brown University, Harvard University, University of Chicago, and Cornell University, and secured research fellowships at National Science Foundation, Oxford University, and Max Planck Society. He holds a B.Sc. in Finance, Economics, and Philosophy, and MA and Ph.D. in Socioeconomics, Organizational Behavior, and Research Methods. He sits on advisory committees at Harvard Business School, Yale University School of Management, and NYU Stern. 

Todd Bridges - Partner & Global Head of Sustainable Investing and ESG Research, Arabesque

Since 2006, Lily has dedicated her career to sustainable and impact investing. Lily joined Morgan Stanley in 2014.  In her current role, Lily works to provide individual, family and institutional clients with investment products, solutions, research and tools to capture the opportunities and mitigate risks posed by key sustainability and impact themes.  

Previously, Lily worked for Veris Wealth Partners in New York, a Registered Investment Advisory focused exclusively on serving clients with interest in sustainable and impact investing, most recently as Head of Research & Due Diligence. Lily began her career at Cambridge Associates in Boston, where she worked on teams overseeing $3.9 billion in nonprofit, high-net-worth and foundation investment portfolios. 

Lily was named to the 2018 class of MAKERS @ Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, a recognition that celebrates women who are ground breakers, advocates, and innovators in their given field.  

Lily earned a M.B.A in Sustainable Business from Presidio Graduate School (formerly Bainbridge Graduate Institute) and her B.A. in Anthropology from Bates College.  She also co-founded Women Investing for a Sustainable Economy (WISE) in 2012, a professional networking group with eight global chapters. Lily and her family live together in Manhattan.

Robert Eccles - Visiting Professor of Management Practice, Oxford, and SASB

Nicole Labutong is the North America Lead for the Partnership for Carbon Accounting Financials (PCAF), an industry-led initiative that has over 100 global members holding over $21 trillion USD in assets. She supports some of the world’s largest financial institutions in measuring and disclosing their financed GHG emissions. Nicole is also an Associate Director at Guidehouse, a leading global provider of consulting services, where she supports Fortune 500 companies with developing and implementing their sustainability strategies. Prior to Guidehouse, Nicole led technical work on science-based targets at CDP where she developed criteria and guidance that companies use to determine how much and how quickly they need to reduce their emissions to help meet the goals of the Paris Agreement. Nicole holds a M.S. in sustainable systems from the University of Michigan and a B.A. in biology from Boston University. Nicole also served on the External Advisory Board of Colorado State University’s Masters in Greenhouse Gas Accounting program.

Gurbani has broad experience working in multiple entities of healthcare. She started her career working within the operations of an academic medical center at Emory Healthcare. There, she on-boarded private primary care practices to a centralized contact center to increase new patient access both within and outside of metro-Atlanta. She then joined Evolent Health, leading population health and value-based care initiatives that included the support of Medicare ACO's and the launch of two Medicare Advantage plans. At Quantified Ventures, Gurbani helps fill a crucial industry resource gap by leveraging impact assets towards the untapped healthcare market to increase access to affordable, quality care for patient populations. Gurbani's passions aren't limited to healthcare. She continually looks for ways to bridge healthcare outcomes with the environment and education sectors.

When she's not working, you can find her rowing, reclining with a copy of the Economist, and making day trips to her hometown, Baltimore.

Gurbani Singh - Senior Associate, Quantified Ventures

Brian Trelstad is a Partner and Board Member of Bridges Fund Management, an investment fund that has raised and invested $1B in impact and sustainable investments.  He is currently investing out of the U.S. Sustainable Growth Fund, and a director of ABIC, an impact-focused special purpose acquisition corporation formed in partnership with private-equity firm AEA.  He is also a co-chair of the Impact Capital Managers, a network of over 60 market rate impact investors in the United States managing over $5B in AUM.   

Brian began his career in impact investing in 2004 when he joined Acumen, where he was the Chief Investment Officer, overseeing the investment of more than $50M into portfolio companies in India, Pakistan, Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa and Ghana.  Prior to Acumen, Brian was a consultant at McKinsey & Company, a program officer at the Corporation for National Service and on the founding team of several for-profit and non-profit social enterprises.  He serves on the boards of several of the portfolio companies at Bridges and two non-profits: VisionSpring and Candid.  He is a Kauffman Fellow and a Henry Crown Fellow of the Aspen Institute.  He has a BA from Harvard, an MBA from Stanford University, and a MA in City and Regional Planning from UC-Berkeley.  He teaches courses in social entrepreneurship and systems change and leadership for corporate accountability at Harvard Business School.

Catherine Godschalk manages Calvert Impact Capital’s Investments team and its global portfolio of impact investments aimed at building, scaling, and strengthening intermediaries and structured funds tackling social and/or environmental challenges. 

Calvert Impact Capital's private debt portfolio is invested through and alongside mission-driven financial intermediaries, funds, and enterprises working across an array of impact areas, including affordable housing, renewable energy, environmental sustainability, micro and small business finance, health, education, and sustainable agriculture.  Since joining Calvert Impact Capital in 2011 Catherine and her team have more the doubled the size of the portfolio. 

Catherine has spent more than 25 years working at the intersection of private capital and social impact, with program and product development, policy, and financing roles across a variety of institutions, including SH Cowell Foundation, the White House Office of Management and Budget, Fannie Mae Corporation, and Self Help Ventures Fund prior to joining Calvert Impact Capital. She has a Master’s Degree in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and received her BA from Columbia University.  She is a board member and investment committee chair for Coastal Enterprises, Inc., investment committee member for ROC USA Capital and Appalachian Community Capital, and a member of the Conservation Finance Network's Advisory Board.

Catherine Godschalk - Vice President of Investments, Calvert Impact Capital

Laura Ahmadi is an ESG healthcare analyst for Calvert Research and Management, a responsible investment firm and subsidiary of Morgan Stanley Investment Management. Prior to joining Calvert, Laura held various roles in the corporate finance and commercial debt industries, including healthcare and life sciences financing. Holiday Hart McKiernan is Executive Vice President, Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for the Lumina Foundation. She oversees operations, legal affairs, and Board governance. While at Lumina, she led the creation of the Foundation’s impact investment capacity and has focused on what can be learned from international higher education reforms to inform American higher education change. Miles Braxton currently serves as an analyst at Goldman Sachs Renewable Power Group, where he coordinates risk management, insurance, and environmental health and safety for over 1,000 commercial-scale solar assets, totaling over 1.3 GW and $2 Billion in equity deployment. 

Formerly an associate on Sol Systems’ Commercial & Industrial (C&I) solar and battery storage business development team, Miles investigated and engaged potential clients in emerging solar markets, in addition to leading SCS’ B2B proposal generation in select markets across the country. This entailed conducting early-stage project financial analysis, designing solar arrays, and conducting market research.

Prior to his work at Sol, Miles completed a renewable energy fellowship at ITility, where he conducted chemical analysis and project management for an animal waste to energy contract. While studying Environmental Science at UVA, Miles researched photonics and perovskite solar cells. Carolina Learth leads Santander Brasil Sustainable Business practice, which includes the expansion of the Sustainable Finance portfolio and maintaining the excellence of Santander´s own ESG performance.

With 15 years of experience within the business, operations and strong focus on the Financial Sector. She had been also professor in post-graduation environmental and sustainability programs.

Her education background includes a degree on Strategies for Sustainable Business (Cambridge University), Master in Environmental Technology (IPT – Technological Research Institute, Post graduated in Management (University of São Paulo) and Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineer (Mackenzie Presbyterian University).

In the past 3 years, Santander Brasil has increased its Sustainable Finance portfolio in more than 10x reaching R$ 27 bi and innovating in mechanisms such as ESG Linked Loans, Transition Bonds and others. As part of the Santander Brasil ESG team she is responsible for supporting clients in a transition to a low carbon and more inclusive economy.

Andy Donohue is responsible for business development efforts with institutional plans in the Northeast. Before joining RBC GAM-US in 2012, Andy was an account executive at Pyramis Global Advisors where he provided ongoing client service to institutional clients, focusing primarily on public funds. He has also worked as a relationship manager on the public funds team at State Street Global Advisors. Andy has been in the financial services industry since 2000 and earned a BA in economics and modern languages from Union College and an MBA from Northeastern University. He holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.

Mindy Frye is an institutional portfolio manager within our fixed income group’s client service team. She serves as the day-to-day point of contact for our institutional impact investing clients while working closely with the fixed income investment team to meet each client’s customized impact requirements. She also serves as a product specialist for our impact investing strategies and supports the efforts of our Chief Strategist of Impact Investing.  Before joining RBC GAM in 2017, Mindy was a senior manager at a global, U.S.-based asset management firm where she led a team responsible for performance and asset reporting; she also worked as senior investment analyst at a private investment firm and as a manager of client service for a registered investment advisory. Mindy started in the financial industry in 2002. She holds FINRA Series 7 and 63 licenses.

Sara Rosner is the Director of Environmental Research and Engagement on the Responsible Investment team. She co-chairs the firm’s ESG Research, Training and Thought Leadership Group and manages AB’s collaboration with Columbia University’s Earth Institute, which focuses on enhancing investors’ ability to integrate climate change considerations into their decision-making and investment processes. Prior to joining the firm in 2018, Rosner performed research for the Columbia Center on Sustainable Investment, where she worked on projects related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and renewable energy alternatives in the extractive industry. She spent most of her early career as a journalist covering energy and infrastructure finance in the Americas for Euromoney Institutional Investor. Rosner is a global member of 100 Women in Finance and a financial literacy volunteer with the High Water Women Foundation. She holds a BS in international studies, magna cum laude, from Pepperdine University and an MS in sustainability management from Columbia University. Location: New York
